Since 2024, thanks to the training vouchers scheme, employees and self-employed individuals have been able to access a growing number of training opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI) in Wallonia. This allows them to develop new skills in this fast-evolving field while continuing to work.
Managed jointly by the Public Service of Wallonia (Service Public de Wallonie, SPW) and the Walloon Public employment service, Le Forem, the training voucher scheme encourages continuing training for workers in the private sector and the self-employed in the Walloon Region. A training voucher worth EUR 30 entitles workers to one hour of training. This amount is covered equally by employers and the Region, and only training offered by SPW-approved training providers is eligible for this incentive. Each year, nearly 500 000 vouchers are used.
In 2024, the training voucher scheme had a regional budget of EUR 7 657 000, benefiting 9 539 companies, training 27 860 workers, and providing 496 063 hours of training. The offer is evolving in line with the changing skill needs of the employment and training markets, including AI changes.
AI training courses approved for training vouchers
As AI’s role in our society continues to grow and profoundly transforms various sectors, the offer of AI training courses in 2024 has increased by 85% compared to 2023.
In April 2025, Le Forem’s online catalogue offered about 20 modules in AI training courses, such as:
- improving business productivity thanks to AI;
- AI for management and communication;
- legal aspects of AI;
- marketing, finance and accounting with the help of AI; and
- optimising IT and HR using AI.
By supporting access to these training courses, training vouchers actively contribute to the modernisation of professional skills and help workers adapt to technological change.
Better digital skills for Wallonia
The inclusion of AI in the approved training topics for the training voucher scheme echoes the Walloon Region’s sustained efforts to develop digital skills, as outlined in the Regional Policy Declaration.
It also reinforces Wallonia’s ambition to meet the many challenges posed by the digital revolution, which are being tackled through various other projects, such as Digital Wallonia, Digistart, the Digital inclusion plan, the Digital school project.
